Ireland & Scotland

Maybe Ireland & Scotland don't really count as being off the beaten path, but we did get to some remote areas in the two countries recently! If you have ever driven the Slea Head Drive in Dingle or made it to the Bealach Na Ba viewpoint in the Western Highlands of Scotland, you'll know what I mean!We just returned from two weeks of exploring these two countries and had the incredible luck to have sunshine every day...perhaps we had the luck of the Irish?! Here are some highlights from our trip.

We flew to Dublin and then drove directly to Galway to explore the west coast.

From Galway we headed south to the gorgeous Dingle peninsula. The town of Dingle is just the right size with a lively food and music scene. The Fish Boxhad delicious fish & chips and we got to squeeze into a pub and hear some live music.

From Dingle, we traveled to Kinsale. As a backpacker, I had stayed in Kinsale a long time ago and was smitten with the town. This trip it was much busier than I remembered but still worth a visit. More sunshine, plenty of walking paths and a delicious meal at Fishy Fishy. From Kinsale, we made a stop at Tourin House & Gardens, the home of the Jameson sisters, direct descendants of the Jameson Whiskey family and then headed to Dublin.

A quick flight from Dublin to Glasgow and we headed to the western highlands of Scotland with a stop in Glencoe and then on to Torridon.

We finished our trip in Edinburgh with more sunshine, a great walking tour, Indian food and a walk along the Water of Leith walkway. Haste ye back!
